- 🌡 Best months: October – March
- ⏱ Recommended time: 2-3 days
- 💰 Budget: $100-180/day mid-range
Understanding Luxor
Luxor sits on both banks of the Nile:
East Bank (City of the Living)
- Modern Luxor town
- Karnak Temple
- Luxor Temple
- Hotels and restaurants
West Bank (City of the Dead)
- Valley of the Kings
- Hatshepsut's Temple
- Colossi of Memnon
- Nobles' tombs
Most visitors stay on the East Bank and day-trip to the West.
Must-See Sites
Valley of the Kings
Where pharaohs were buried for 500 years. Tutankhamun's tomb is here, along with Ramses II, Seti I, and 60+ others.
Tips:
- Standard ticket covers 3 tombs (rotate which are open)
- Tutankhamun and Seti I require extra tickets
- Go early—by 10am it's hot and crowded
- No photos inside tombs
Karnak Temple
The largest ancient religious complex ever built. Walking through the Great Hypostyle Hall—134 massive columns—is overwhelming.
Tips:
- Budget 2-3 hours minimum
- Early morning or late afternoon for best light
- Sound & Light show at night is atmospheric
Luxor Temple
Right in town, beautifully lit at night. Different from Karnak—more intimate, different era.
Hatshepsut's Temple (Deir el-Bahari)
The female pharaoh's mortuary temple, carved into cliffs. Dramatic and unique.
Colossi of Memnon
Two massive statues marking a destroyed temple. Quick stop, iconic photo.
