Best Time to Visit Egypt — Month by Month Guide

A complete guide to Egypt's weather, crowds, and prices by month. Find out when to book your trip for the perfect experience.

January 24, 2026

Egypt is a year-round destination, but timing matters more than most travelers realize. The difference between visiting in October and August isn't just comfort—it's the difference between exploring temples at a reasonable pace and surviving a heat endurance test.

Quick answer: October to April offers the best conditions. November and March are the sweet spot.

Best Months: October – April

This is peak season for good reason. Temperatures are comfortable for sightseeing, and you can spend full days exploring without heat exhaustion.

October

Warm, 25-32°C • Medium crowds • Medium prices

The heat is fading and the high season is beginning. Excellent choice for avoiding both extremes.

November ⭐

Perfect, 20-28°C • High crowds • Higher prices

Peak season begins. Weather is ideal—warm days, cool evenings. Book accommodations early.

December

Cool, 15-23°C • Very high crowds • Peak prices

Holiday travelers arrive. Great weather but busy. Book months in advance for Christmas/New Year.

January

Cool, 13-20°C • High crowds • High prices

Post-holiday crowd drop-off mid-month. Comfortable sightseeing temperatures. Evenings can be chilly.

February

Warming, 15-23°C • Medium-high crowds • Medium prices

One of our favorite months. Sweet spot of weather, crowds, and prices. Perfect temple-exploring conditions.

March

Pleasant, 18-26°C • High crowds • Medium-high prices

Still comfortable for sightseeing. Some khamsin (dusty wind) possible. Great Nile cruise weather.

April

Warm, 22-30°C • Medium crowds • Medium prices

Last comfortable month before the heat sets in. Good value, fewer crowds than winter.

Shoulder Season: May & September

May

Hot, 27-35°C • Low crowds • Low prices

Doable with careful planning. Start early, rest midday, explore evenings. Great deals available.

September

Hot, 28-35°C • Low crowds • Low prices

End of the heat wave. Temperatures start dropping late month. Good deals if you can handle the warmth.

Summer: June – August

We don't recommend summer travel to Egypt unless you're heat-tolerant and want the lowest prices.

June – August

Extreme, 32-40°C • Very low crowds • Lowest prices

Temperatures regularly exceed 40°C (104°F) in Luxor and Aswan. Sightseeing is genuinely difficult. If you must go, stick to Cairo (slightly cooler) or the Red Sea (beach/water activities).

What to Consider

Your Priorities

Best weather: November, February, March Lowest prices: June, July, August Fewest crowds: June, July, August, May Best value: January, April, September Nile cruises: October – April (water levels optimal)

Regional Differences

Cairo: 3-5°C cooler than Upper Egypt Luxor/Aswan: Peak heat, but dry Red Sea: Swimmable year-round, windy Dec-Feb Alexandria: Mediterranean climate, winter rain possible

Our Recommendation

For most travelers, we recommend October to April, with November, February, and March being the ideal months.

If you're budget-conscious and heat-tolerant, May and September offer great value with manageable (though warm) conditions.

Avoid June through August unless you specifically want the lowest prices and don't mind extreme heat.
